About cookie shops
In Britain we grew up on biscuits – digestives, custard creams, Hobnobs – dunked in tea. The cookie is a different beast: larger, softer, chewier, often still warm, and frequently loaded with chocolate, nuts or a molten centre. Over the past few years, specialist cookie shops have multiplied, many beginning as lockdown delivery businesses and later opening counters. Thick New York-style cookies weighing well over 100g have become a genre all of their own.
What to order
- Classic chocolate chip – The signature – a mix of milk and dark chocolate chunks with flaky salt.
- Double chocolate – Cocoa dough and chocolate chunks for serious chocoholics.
- Biscoff-stuffed cookie – Caramelised biscuit spread oozing from the centre.
- White chocolate and raspberry – A sweet-sharp combination that is a UK favourite.
- Oat and raisin – A chewy, spiced classic that is more traditional in style.
